KOBV-Zentrale

The Head Office of KOBV (KOBV-Zentrale) provides an Internet Portal for libraries in Berlin and Brandenburg, which allows an access to comprehensive scope of information at several institutions.

Its task is on the one hand to provide services for the libraries and on the other hand it runs projects in order to promote further development. KOBV-Zentrale transfers the results of the projects into KOBV services.

KOBV is also a service and development center for the partner libraries and a consortial service provider for a set of library applications.

KOBV-Zentrale is based at Zuse Institute Berlin (Konrad-Zuse-Zentrum für Informationstechnik Berlin - ZIB), a research institute for applied mathematics and computer science. It is integrated into the division Scientific Computing, department Scientific Information.

The office of the Friedrich Althoff Consortium (FAK), with which the KOBV cooperates, is located at the KOBV-Zentrale.

KOBV-Zentrale consists of two sections: Library Section and Information Technology Section.

It is responsible for the providing and maintenance of services and for their development. It represents also the library network in public.

The main aspect in the philosophy of KOBV is a tight coupling and common realization of operating and developmental tasks at the KOBV-Zentrale. Service and development are interconnected for mutual benefit.
